Gilles' Choice for Paris Restaurants with a View

Like in most cities a great view often equates to mediocre food or poor service. Paris is no different. Restaurants with a great view which are not a tourist trap and with "acceptable" food are not easy to find apart from the obvious Alain Ducasse, The Jules Vergne Restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Eiffel Tower (now the most popular place in the world for marriage proposals).

Here are 3 restaurants with views worth visiting.

Maison Blanche by the Pourcel Brothers in the tres chic Avenue Montaigne - 15 Avenue Montaigne, 75008 Paris.  Tel: 01 47235599

Located on the rooftop of the Theatre des Champs Elysees, it allows for an amazing view of the golden dome of the Invalides and the Eiffel Tower. The food is fine, the service most of the time professional - a great place for a celebration.

Les Ombres - Musee De Quai Branly - 27 Quai Branly, 75007, Paris.  Tel:  01 47536800

Amazing rooftop restaurant in the Jean Nouvel Museum with a full view of the Eiffel Tower. The food is imaginative, well executed with a menu that reflects the museum's multi cultural collections.

KONG - 1 Rue de Pont Neuf 75001 Paris.  Tel:  01 40390900

Ultra modern and hip, a Philippe Stark design restaurant in the sky on top of Kenzo HO (the last two floors). Classic French food with Japanese influence, but I recommend this place more for the decor (check the Stark ultra translucent ghost Louis XV chairs with different faces on the back - quite cartoonish).  A good place, even for a quick bite or for lunch not far from the Louvre, to take advantage of an amazing view of Paris.
